Algappan Subramanian, BS '00 and Lakshmi Algappan, BS '05
Algappan (Al) Subramanian and Lakshmi Algappan started their UB journeys in 1996 and 2001, respectively.
Al, born in India and raised in Singapore, completed his bachelor of science degree in business administration in 2000. Since then, he has worked in both the private and public sectors and now serves as an analyst for the Virginia State Police.
Lakshmi, born in Nigeria and raised in Belize, hails from India. She completed her B.S. in Business Administration in 2005 and thereafter joined Ernst & Young. Lakshmi received her CPA in 2006, had an illustrious career with the firm, and was made partner in 2018.
Lakshmi and Al have had the desire to give back to the university for quite some time. The staff and faculty at the School of Business had a positive impact and influence in their earlier years. They bonded with many faculty and staff during their UB journey, especially with Dr. Diane Dittmar, Kim Greenfield, and Tim Tryjankowski. The journey they took together started at UB, and they have been privileged in their lives to bring about worthy outcomes from the many challenges they faced. They were shaped in many ways by UB, and credit this solid foundation for their successes to date. The endowment Lakshmi and Al are creating is something they consider to be a token of their appreciation and one way to give back to the institution that they hold close to their hearts.
Lakshmi and Al have settled in Richmond, Va., with their two children. They enjoy hiking and the beach and are very passionate about tennis. Their advice to others is, “Keep moving, whether forward, backward or sideways…but always continue to make a step, calibrate and strive to do better. ALWAYS get up.”
