The Skerker Family
The David and Rebecca Skerker Scholarship was established by Bernard Skerker (1919-1995) in memory of his parents, David and Rebecca.
Bernard Skerker, the Chief Executive Officer of Robinson Knife Company, was an avid UB supporter. He served as president of the UB Boosters Club in the 1960s, leading several campaigns to raise much-needed funds to maintain the football program. In 1967, he won the Samuel P. Capen Award as the outstanding alumnus; even though he wasn’t an athlete, in 1991, he was inducted into the UB Athletic Hall of Fame. His deep commitment to the team was demonstrated in part by traveling to its games away from Buffalo. As a UB undergraduate, he was student manager for football.
Bernard’s son, Bob Skerker, was Chairman and Chief Executive officer of the Robinson Home Products from 1986 to 2006 and, after selling his company to its employees, he helped start the Jacobs Institute (Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus) serving as its president in 2014. He served as co-chair of the National Preservation Conference held in Buffalo in 2011. He currently serves on the UB School of Architecture and Planning’s Dean’s Council, and as a director if the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
