Nicole Soltyka, who earned her UB degree in Geography, established a professorship in engineering to honor the life and accomplishments of her husband, “Tony”, a graduate of UB’s School of Engineering (MS ’92, BS ’84), and to celebrate their life together. Unfortunately, Tony passed away at a young age, however, before he did, he lived with enthusiasm. He embraced the challenges of his professional world as an electrical engineer during his 35 year career. In his personal life he applied his engineering mind to his classic Corvette hobby where he earned the title of Master Judge, and to his stock trading pastime where he developed a stock indicator to anticipate price changes. As she and her husband were proud UB alumni, Mrs. Soltyka thought it fitting to create a fund at their alma mater in recognition of the broader world that their UB education made it possible for them to experience together, and to pay homage to the professional life of an engineering graduate who used his education well.

Mrs. Soltyka’s generosity in creating the Anthony J. and Nicole Soltyka Professorship is intended to support the Department of Electrical Engineering’s efforts to attract, retain and recognize distinguished faculty members whose teaching and research will enhance the reputation of the department, and positively influence the educational and professional pursuits of future generations of electrical engineers.
